  • With Fortnite Season 6 and the one-year anniversary of Battle Royale coming up next week, Fortnite just had its biggest month yet. “August was Fortnite’s biggest month yet, with 78.3 million of you showing up to play.” That’s 78.3 million unique accounts on six platforms. That number also includes the slowly growing Chinese audience, where Fortnite is being rolled out in waves via a priviate beta on Tencent’s WeGame platform. • UL Benchmarks is fleshing out its 3DMark benchmarking suite with a couple of new tests, one of which is built specifically for evaluating systems with integrated graphics. The other is a ray tracing benchmark that we covered last month. The one that is being built for PCs with integrated graphics is called “Night Raid.” As for the ray tracing benchmark, it still doesn’t have a name. Night Raid is slated to arrive in October, followed by the ray tracing test sometime in the fourth quarter.

  • Everything Rockstar’s publicly shown of Red Dead Redemption 2 so far has been cinematic cutscenes or standard third-person gameplay, but you’ll be able to play the entire game in first-person mode too. In the demo we played, first-person perspective could be cycled into and out of like any other camera mode. Rockstar’s last big game, GTA 5 , has a first-person mode as well, added for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions. The company didn’t specifically say so, but it seems reasonable to assume tha

  • The old-time MMO scene will grow a little larger next month with the launch of Lineage 2 Classic, “a return to those days when ‘hardcore’ truly meant something,” as publisher NCsoft put it. It’s not a complete reversion to the good old days, however. Lineage 2 Classic will remain free to play, with a new shop that will offer cosmetics, experience-boosting buffs, and other handy in-game items. Lineage 2 Classic will open its doors on October 3. • It took the best Destiny raiders in the world nearly 19 hours to initially clear Last Wish, the new raid in Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion, when it released last Friday. But now that players have learned the raid’s fights and boosted their power levels, they’re already chasing Last Wish challenge runs using smaller teams. Known challenge raider Slayerage recently killed Kalli, the Corrupted, the first boss in Last Wish, with the smallest team possible—which is to say, just him. Slayerage posted

  • Not to worry, though; a new trailer released during Tokyo Game Show has all the red-hot Dante action you could want (plus a few other surprises). Second, DMC5 seems to be looping in almost every disparate part of the Devil May Cry universe. The long-haired blonde woman and short-haired brunette who join him 45 seconds into the trailer are Trish and Lady, respectively. Trish was a quasi-antagonist, quasi-love interest from the first game, while Lady debuted in Devil May Cry 3 (which, to be clear,

  • Most of the food I ate in Fallout games was scrounged from bombed out grocery stores or picked up off the ground, so it’s not a series I necessarily associate with culinary delight. But following in the footsteps of the World of Warcraft cookbook, Bethesda’s RPG series now has its own book of recipes, the Vault Dweller’s Official Cookbook, out on October 23. • Now, one player has managed to beat the first raid boss, Kalli, solo. While this Kalli solo achievement isn’t one with a significant reward, it is one that comes with significant bragging rights. After all, this raid isn’t so simple. As seen below, the first known solo raid of Kalli is completed by noted challenge runner Slayerage. For newcomers to the raid, Slayerage recommended players just stay on top of the mechanics, as those are often life-and-death situations themselves.

Method decided to add to the pressure, this time, by live-streaming their entire mythic progress—something that’s never been done before. • Capcom has released a story trailer for the Resident Evil 2 Remake, due out early next year. Perhaps she’s saving it for a special occasion, like a dinner party or the opening of a casino. The video also shows Claire Redfield’s first encounter with Sherry Birkin, and we get a glimpse of Leon’s first encounter with the not-so-healthy-looking William Birkin. In case you don’t remember old Bill, you spent a decent amount of time in the original Red Dead Redemption hunting him down. Metro Exodus is bigger than 2033 and Last Light combined

4A Games has said previously that Metro Exodus will be more open than the previous games in the Metro series, but it won't be a completely open world like that of Stalker. For one thing, individual levels in Exodus will be much larger than anything seen in the previous games. The biggest outdoor level in Last Light was roughly "200 meters to 100 meters," Prokhorov said,. That means everything from weapons, attachments, and other loot, to "frozen stories" that reveal more about the game world and
