Borderlands 3 is getting a big update just in time for Valentine’s Day, but the game’s special “Broken Hearts Day” event isn’t even the most significant part of the update: players have been requesting one special feature pretty much since the day of the game’s launch, and now they’re finally getting it. Aside from the patch’s many stability tweaks, special Stadia updates, new modes, and more, Borderlands 3 will now also have access to skippable cutscenes.

Gearbox announced the big changes in an official post to its website just before the patch’s release; as the developer promised, the patch went live for all platforms by 3 pm PST. The patch announcement also came just a couple of days after Gearbox teased a roadmap for future DLC coming to the game.

Players should be excited to know that skippable cutscenes are finally part of Borderlands 3; with the patch, every cutscene in the game can be skipped whether or not it has been seen before. That applies to both solo gameplay and multiplayer, as the host of a party can opt to collectively skip cutscenes for everyone playing. Skipping cutscenes is now a simple matter of pressing any key or button, and a prompt will appear to confirm skipping the scene. Beyond that, there are plenty of other additions to note, including the Borderlands 3’s level cap increase from 50 to 53 and the ability to disable individual Guardian Ranks or even the whole system, for those looking for a vanilla leveling experience in-game.

The Broken Hearts Day Valentine’s event is also live as of the update, and that means a new challenge: floating hearts will be popping up around enemies’ heads, and players who can blast the hearts and bring their loot to Maurice aboard the Sanctuary III can get rewarded for their efforts. Among the promised Broken Hearts Day loot are two powerful new weapons, Terminal Polyaimorous and Wedding Invitation.

An event toggle function being added will also let players disable seasonal events in-game when they wish, and True Takedown Mode is being introduced to the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite; going forward, both the original mode and True Takedown can be enabled. Borderlands 3 players using the Google Stadia should also be pleased since Update 1.09 finally catches the game’s Stadia version up to every other platform–that means access to Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite and every other improvement through previous patches.

While the latest update doesn’t radically change Borderlands 3 gameplay, it adds some ease-of-use tweaks that players will definitely appreciate, and gives experienced players a new challenge through True Takedown Mode. For the month of February, players have lots to explore; plus, there’s still a Shift Code worth three golden keys for anyone to take advantage of.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
