Pokemon Sword and Shield New Pokemon is Largest Ever

Nintendo unexpectedly released some new information on Pokemon Sword and Shield earlier this week, revealing some brand new Pokemon in the process. This included Alcremie, the fairy-type “cream” Pokemon, complete with what appears to be strawberries on its head. In its regular form, Alcremie is a fairly small Pokemon, but it can actually become a massive behemoth that stands as the largest Pokemon revealed so far.

Not only did Nintendo reveal new Pokemon for Pokemon Sword and Shield, but it also pulled the curtain back on a feature called Gigantamaxing. Not to be confused with the similar feature Dynamaxing (where a Pokemon simply becomes a larger version of itself), Gigantamaxing dramatically transforms a Pokemon’s appearance. In the case of Alcremie, it turns the cute little fairy-type Pokemon into a a towering wedding cake.

Gigantamax Alcremie is reportedly 98.5 feet tall, which makes it significantly larger than every other Pokemon in the games so far. Just to put Gigantamax Alcremie’s size into perspective, Wailord, the Pokemon that previously held the title for largest Pokemon, is only 47.7 feet long.

Of course, it’s possible that there are other new Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield that are larger than Alcremie but simply have yet to be revealed. For example, if Wailord also has a Gigantamax form, it could potentially dwarf Gigantamax Alcremie’s size, which would be an impressive feat to say the least.

Nintendo has so far kept a tight lid on other Pokemon that will have Gigantamax forms in Pokemon Sword and Shield, but a leak (which has been legitimized by announcements corroborating its claims) has revealed some other Gigantamax Pokemon in the games. According to the leaker, Meowth, Lapras, and Pikachu all have Gigantamax forms as well.

It’s unclear just how large the Gigantamax forms for Meowth, Lapras, and Pikachu will be, but the leaker did provide some details as to what they’ll look like. Apparently Gigantamax Meowth will be a “long cat,” whereas Gigantamax Lapras will have musical notes layered on its shell. Gigantamax Pikachu, meanwhile, will supposedly have the old-school “fat” Pikachu look.

Fans can expect official reveals for the Gigantamax forms for these Pokemon leading up to the Pokemon Sword and Shield release date. But in the meantime, we can officially crown Gigantamax Alcremie as the largest Pokemon to date.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will launch on November 15, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
