Call of Duty 2019 to Be Featured at E3 Coliseum Event

During this time of year, Activision and the respective developers of the Call of Duty franchise are usually gearing up to announce the next installment in the series. It’s already been confirmed that 2019 will be the 14th straight year with a new Call of Duty release, and next month’s E3 looks to set the stage in bringing the game front and center for all fans.

The official E3 Twitter account confirmed today the upcoming, untitled Call of Duty game will be featured during the trade show’s Coliseum event. While the panel looks to take a deeper dive into the world of developer Infinity Ward’s first-person shooter, this doesn’t exclude the possibility of an official title or trailer drop prior to the event. Every year, the next Call of Duty seems to consistently be revealed sometime in April or May, leaving E3 as the first stop for in-depth gameplay trailers and information.

The move to E3’s Coliseum event looks to be publisher Activision’s response to Sony pulling out of E3 this year. The last few years, Call of Duty has be exclusively shown off or mentioned during Sony’s E3 conferences. Given Sony’s departure from the trade show coupled with Xbox’s reliance on other high-profile third-party titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077, the E3 Coliseum looks to be the next best place to show off the game.

It’s there where fans will see whether or not the litany of rumors surrounding the next Call of Duty will come to fruition. The most common rumors seem to point at a return to the Modern Warfare series, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 being the likely official title. Other reports claim the confirmed return of a proper single-player campaign will not be in the form of the new story, but rather a remastered version of 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Another leak suggests the rumored Modern Warfare 4 won’t have a battle royale mode, unlike 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Given the “live service” approach the mode serves, it’s possible Treyarch, the developers of the last Call of Duty game, will continue supporting Blackout with regular updates and content additions while Infinity Ward looks to fill the void Black Ops 4 left open by not including a story mode.

Call of Duty 2019 currently has no confirmed release date or platforms.
