It is no secret that Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is one of the most iconic and influential titles in the recent history of video games. Its upcoming sequel, The Last of Us Part 2, is no doubt one of the most anticipated games of 2019, if it releases then. Of course, it is not unusual for a franchise that has captivated this much attention for other people to look at it as a source of inspiration, which looks like what the team behind the 2018 movie What Still Remains did.

For those unfamiliar with the film, What Still Remains is a post-apocalyptic flick that follows the story of a young girl and an older man trying to survive a world ravaged by a viral pandemic causing people to become violent. Sounds familiar? Well as it turns out, the film’s plot is not the only similarity that What Still Remains share with The Last of Us.

Twitter user Rob Trench posted a tweet showing the apparent resemblance between the What Still Remains’ poster and the cover art of The Last of Us. The tweet quickly grabbed the attention of Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, who was promoted as the studio’ Vice President several months ago. In his reply to Trench’s post, Druckmann hilariously questioned the poster’s legitimacy followed by crying with laughter emoticon.

Hold on… is this for real? 😂 https://t.co/pXsl8sO6Ba — Neil Druckmann (@Neil_Druckmann) January 6, 2019

As it happens, the poster is legit, but the filmmakers have already stopped using it for promotional purposes and have since moved on to a more original design. Unfortunately, this did not stop the original poster from resurfacing online, which proves the saying that “everything posted online is there forever.” For those interested in seeing how similar the actual film is to The Last of Us, What Still Remains is now streaming in selected regions on Netflix.

As for the status of the The Last of Us Part 2, a recent job listing posted a few days ago points that the game will have character customization in multiplayer and an in-game store. However, no specific details were released as to how all of this will operate in the game, which is not surprising since Naughty Dog still hasn’t announced an official release date until today.

The Last of Us is available now for PS3 and PS4.
