Qualcomm pushes towards 64-bit apps on Windows 10 for ARM

One of the biggest pitfalls of running Windows 10 on a Snapdragon chip is the fact that Qualcomm’s ARM processors don’t support 64-bit applications. However, at Microsoft Build 2018, Qualcomm has announced it is releasing a 64-bit SDK for Windows on ARM. An early preview of the SDK comes with the latest Visual Studio 15.8 Preview 1 with all the tools to allow you to create your own 64-bit ARM apps. What's more, Qualcomm says developers will be able to develop x64 apps that run natively on ARM pr

Dota 2 is getting a battle royale-style mode where you fight over cheese

The 2018 International Battle Pass offers some very interesting new things for Dota 2 players, foremost among them The Underhollow, a new game mode that has three-player teams setting off on a competitive quest for cheese that sounds an awful lot like an underground battle royale. "Battle through a labyrinth filled with monsters, marvels, and many other three-player enemy squads as you search for Roshan's rarest cheese and work to be the last team standing. You'll need to navigate carefully to e

The next Android TV device is here, but it’s only for developers

In a relatively light hardware year at Google I/O, the Mountain View-based company saved one announcement for its most hardcore of Android TV developers - a new device called the ADT-2 that will serve as a testbed for Android TV P, its upcoming version of Android TV. The device doesn’t look like much with it’s almost original Chromecast-like exterior, but the latest additions to Android TV should allow even the most low-spec’d devices to enjoy solid playback and quick navigation. The streaming d

Stephen Fry has a cameo in Destiny 2: Warmind

As you're playing through Destiny 2: Warmind, you will eventually, as did our groundbreaking guardian and global editor-in-chief, come across a voice with an oddly familiar, posh English tone. And you may then think to yourself, as he did, "I wonder if that is actually the voice of Stephen Fry?" Fry provides the AI voice of the public address system at the Clovis Bray facility on Mars during the Will of the Thousands mission. It might be that Fry actually is the voice of Clovis himself, the foun

World of Warcraft DDoS attacker is going to prison for a year

A 38-year-old Romanian man is going to do a one-year stretch in US federal prison for launching a series DDoS attacks against World of Warcraft in 2010. The US Department of Justice said in a statement that Calin Mateias unleashed his digital fury after getting into an unspecified beef with other players. Solar Settlers is my new favorite game to kill an hour with

It’s always nice to find an overlooked gem, especially in the niche genre of digital board games, and Solar Settlers is my latest pleasant discovery. A singleplayer game clearly inspired by contemporary economics-driven strategy board games, Solar Settlers is driven by all about doing as much as you can in a single turn. Solar Settlers is played on a grid of random cards, most of which start the game unexplored and invisible. The final resource, Metals, is spent to play cards from your hand. If

A Google Chrome update breaks the audio in numerous web-based games

Google Chrome was recently updated to block auto-playing videos on websites by default. So much for that...looks like the chrome update broke all of the audio in my html5 games as well. The audio issue appears to be hit-or-miss: Cabbi.bo, for instance, still produces audio for some users on Chrome (myself included), but not all. "With Chrome’s new autoplay policies, developers shouldn’t assume that audio can be played before a user gesture," a Google rep said. "With gaming in Chrome, this may af
