Valve buys Campo Santo, developer of Firewatch

Campo Santo, the developer of Firewatch, has joined Valve. The news arrived as a blog post on Campo Santo's website, which reassured readers that everyone at the studio is remaining employed, and work on the developer's next game (expected in 2019) will continue. "The twelve of us at Campo Santo have agreed to join Valve," the post reads, "where we will maintain our jobs as video game developers and continue production on our current project, In the Valley of Gods." "They asked us if we’d all be

Beyond Skyrim’s latest trailer shows the ambitious mod’s take on the Breton and Redguard homelands

In the latest trailer, the team show off their plans for the provinces of Hammerfell and Highrock, the homelands of the Redguard and Bretons respectively. Beyond Skyrim is split into a number of separate projects, and this region comes under the Iliac Bay: Tower of Dawn portion. The trailer for Three Kingdoms, above, looks impressive, and I can't wait to explore some of its landscapes. I especially like the look of the Hammerfell portion, which will mix arid deserts with lush grasslands and ston

Iratus: Lord of the Dead, an RPG inspired by Darkest Dungeon, is heading to Kickstarter next month

Iratus: Lord of the Dead is a roguelike inspired by Darkest Dungeon, the party-based dungeon crawler from 2016, and I can think of worse games to emulate. It's a debut game for Russian developer Unfrozen Studios, which is partly formed by developers that worked on the Disciples franchise. You control Iratus, a necromancer hell-bent on world domination, who uses an army of animated corpses to do his bidding. The game is largely complete, but the team plan to launch a Kickstarter at the start of n

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire director urges RPG developers to be more ‘radical’, says some fans ‘resistant to change’

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is just over two weeks away, and I can't wait. “Fans tend to skew towards the more hardcore cases and they tend to be fairly resistant to change," he said at Reboot Development 2018 this week. “The genre can go in a number of different directions...I’m also contributing to the problem. Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 are very traditional role playing games." “The traditionalists probably get angry about this stuff, but Bethesda’s RPGs are very different from isometric

Resogun makers break from arcade mold with Stormdivers

Housemarque, which delivered Resogun for PlayStation 4 when the console launched in 2013, announced its newest title yesterday: Stormdivers. Stormdivers will be the second game made in the Unreal Engine by Housemarque (the first being Matterfall, which launched last summer.) The tease trailer doesn’t give a good sense of what Stormdivers’ gameplay involves — the blowing embers suggests some kind of wildland fire motif though. Housemarque said the change in genre was necessary because “our games

Product launch: a trip to the Taco Bell Space Station

“I don’t want the Taco Bell International Space Station. I think it goes against what the public perceives the space station is supposed to be like.” — a quote from Erin MacDonald, an engineer for Engility’s Space and Mission Systems Group, during a panel on space sponsorship at the 34th Space Symposium, Space News reports. “T-minus five minutes to liftoff.”I don’t think my heart has ever pounded this hard. I don’t think I can describe the utter joy that is floating in microgravity. Think outsid

God of War’s steelbook runes translated

If you bought a special edition of God Of War with a steelbook — there were two, I think — you might notice the reverse cover has a runic inscription. Well, that has a translation and the Internet being the Internet, someone found it out. Redditor Wolfstrong recognized that the runes came from Elder Futhark, the oldest of the runic alphabets. According to this page, that alphabet was forgotten from the Middle Ages until about 150 years ago, when someone deciphered it. The translation seems to be
