Bethesda Founder Thinks Loot Box Backlash Could Lead to Higher Game Prices

One of the biggest controversies in the game industry this year came from loot boxes, items which have existed previously but greatly increased in appearance. Fan backlash to the practice have been incredibly loud and vocal, likely shaking up how companies approach this system in the future. Christopher Weaver, Bethesda founder and one of the creators of The Elder Scrolls franchise, was recently asked about this loot box trend and specifically how video games should make money in the wake of thi

Bungie Acknowledges Destiny 2 Eververse Feedback

Since the launch of Destiny 2, developer Bungie has come under fire regarding design choices made to the long-awaited sequel. While it’s certainly a good sign that Bungie will be hearing the voices of the Destiny fan base, many users seem doubtful that this will lead to any real change on the developer’s part. The Gods of Mars DLC is pegged for a March 2018 release date, which should give Bungie plenty of time to make some much-needed changes to the Eververse system and the title as a whole. As

Nintendo Switch overtakes PS2’s first-year sales record in Japan

Nintendo Switch has had a huge December over in Japan, with nearly 900,000 systems sold by Dec. 24. Based on the most recent cumulative sales data from Famitsu, the country’s biggest gaming publication, Nintendo has now sold just under 3.3 million Switch consoles in its homeland — both edging out PlayStation 2’s first-year sales numbers and matching Wii U’s lifetime sales to date. But while the Switch sold an impressive 520,000 units in its first month, the PS2 blasted it away: Sony sold almost

PUBG hits 3 million concurrent players, breaking its own record

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, the survival shooter that has emerged as the most popular PC game of the year, has just beaten its own record for most concurrent players. Early this morning Battlegrounds eclipsed 3 million players. To put that into perspective, the game in second place right now, Dota 2, has only ever had a maximum of 1.29 million players at one time. But it didn’t hit 1 million concurrent players until September. The move into China, as well as the launch of the formal 1.0 versi

Pokémon Go’s most exotic regional exclusive won’t be easy to find

To find one of Pokémon Go’s new region-exclusive Pokémon, you may have to take a vacation. With just around six million people living in these countries combined, not many Pokémon Go trainers have seen the coveted water- and rock-type. The ones that have, though, are piping up on The Silph Road to confirm their sightings. That makes Relicanth the fifth new region-exclusive Pokémon as of Pokémon Go’s last major update. For Zangoose and Seviper, that separation is explained in-game; the two Pokémo

One of 2018’s most exciting indie games looks deceptively simple

Modest art, minimal animation, few colors: Baba Is You looks like a bare-bones MS-DOS game, a dusty relic from the early ’80s. But it’s one of the most inventive games I played in 2017, and one of my most anticipated releases of 2018. You could try “Rock Is Baba” and turn Baba to stone. Or you could just change the win state to “Rock Is Win,” safely move Baba to a rock and ignore everything else. According to Teikari’s Twitter, the complete Baba Is You will be available in summer 2018 on PC.
