New Tales of Games for DS, Wii, and PSP

Bandai Namco has announced the development of four new Tales of games in the latest issue of Japanese gaming mag Shonen Jump.

First up is Tales of Innocence for Nintendo DS. Due out in Japan this December, Innocence is an all-new Tales of adventure with character designs from Mutsumi Inomata, whose previous work with the franchise includes Tales of Destiny and Tales of Rebirth. Namco’s first Tales of effort on the DS, the outsourced Tales of the Tempest, was panned by both critics and fans. Whether the company has moved in-house with Tales of Innocence or has once again handed the game over to independent developer Dimps is currently unclear.

UPDATE: Apparently development duties on Tales of Innocence will be handled by Alfa System, who also worked on the recently released Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology for PSP. This according to information released at a Tales of series press conference held today in Japan.

The other all-new game announced is Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk, the Wii sequel to the GameCube Tales of Symphonia which has been rumored for some time. As with Tales of Innocence, Knight of Ratatosk raises several questions. Is the game in any way related to the mysterious Sword of Legendia seen on early Wii game lists from Nintendo, or has that game been scrapped in favor of a Symphonia sequel? Unfortunately, the magazine article doesn’t reveal much.

Also announced in the magazine are Tales of Rebirth for the PSP, a port of the 2004 PS2 game and the fifth Tales of game to hit the portable, and Tales of Destiny Director’s Cut for an unnamed platform, although at this point it is likely to be a PS2 game as the platform has previously seen a Destiny remake.

UPDATE: Namco Bandai has confirmed suspicions that Tales of Destiny Director’s Cut is headed to PS2.

AMN will have more details on all these newly announced games as they become available.
